It's only 3 years after you posted your message but here is a little information, which you may have long since found elsewhere.Pages 56 & 57 of the Auchincloss Family Tree (pub. 1957, Dingley Press, Freeport Maine)discusses early Scots history of the New York/New England branch of the family, including the source of name.William S. Auchincloss did the research and he quotes a 1928 article in The Weekly Scotsman by 'G. P. D' (?) who said the name was 'an ancient Ayrshire name, originating from the lands of Auchincloich in this country.The derivation of the name is from the Gaelic achadh 'a field'; an, 'of the'; cloiche, 'a stone.'The earlier record of the name gives James Achinloss, A.D. 1500 of that ilk.'
He also lists Roberto, Jacobus and James with the same dates that you have but, OF COURSE, doesn't mention any women (why bother?) and doesn't give the source of his information.
